This page provides resources for graduate students who seek funding outside of the university to supplement their educational, research, and professional development efforts.

The Graduate School offers resources designed to support graduate students in identifying external funding sources and developing competitive applications.  Dr. Maryanne Long, the Director of Postdoctoral Affairs and Graduate Fellowships for the Graduate School is dedicated to assisting you. Before you apply for external funding, let us know by emailing GradFund@utep.edu. The Graduate School staff is available to provide support, resources, and consultations throughout your application process. Once you’ve secured external funding, report your award so we can laud your accomplishment!

Fall 2025 The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers  which provides eligible doctoral students with supervised research training in specified health and health-related areas. The fellowship applications are written by the student, but we are here to help. This fall semester, the Graduate School is hosting its inaugural faculty-led Wednesday Workshop series to assist graduate students in preparing their applications which are due December 8. This opportunity also includes support for postdoctoral researchers applying for F32 fellowship awards. Review this flyer for more information. Sessions are hybrid and registration via MineTracker is required for each. Graduate Student Assembly October Meeting: On Tuesday, October 7, Dr. Maryanne Long (Director of Postdoctoral Affairs and Graduate Fellowships) will present on searching for external funding at the Graduate Student Assembly October Meeting. All 百花视频 graduate students are invited to attend. The presentation will begin promptly at 5:30 pm. The meeting is located in C-003. 
  1. - applications due September 30, 2025; open to women in all fields of study who will be working on dissertations July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027. 
  2. The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Program: open to women who are citizens of developing countries and pursuing STEM PhD degrees. New applications will be accepted from September 1st to November 7th, 2025 for the 2026 Fellowships. Review eligibility criteria and more information click .
  3. American Educational Research Association (AERA): The AERA-National Science Foundation (NSF) grant program is accepting proposals for both its Dissertation and Research Grants with a deadline of October 6, 2025. Funds are available to those conducting secondary analysis using large-scale federal or federally funded data sets; state longitudinal administrative data; or local record system data in their research. Applicants are encouraged to register for an informational webinar on September 10 at 2:00pm ET (which is 12pm mountain time) to learn more about the AERA-NSF Grants Program and the application process.  For more information and to register visit .   
  4. The American Psychological Association (APA) Dissertation Research Award: The purpose of the APA Science Directorate's Dissertation Research Award program is to assist science-oriented doctoral students of psychology with research costs. Deadline: March 1, 2026 For more information click . 
  5. The Office of Student Fellowships and Awards and the Graduate School's Director of Postdoctoral Affairs and Graduate Fellowships assist graduate students with the NSF GRPF and Fulbright application processes. The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) provides successful applicants with three years of funding for a research-based Master’s or PhD program in a field supported by the NSF. This award funds the researcher, not the research project, so it may be used at an accredited U.S. university of the recipient’s choice and provides them with the creative freedom to develop their own research agenda. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides successful applicants with fellowships for research, teaching, or Master’s study in over 140 countries worldwide. It is also an opportunity to represent the United States overseas as a cultural ambassador and to share your perspective on the American experience. 
Cientifico Latino, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization and offers a fellowship database for STEM-related pursuits.
Pathways to Science maintains a page specifically for prospective and current STEM graduate students to search for fellowships, funding opportunities and to access other resources. 
The 百花视频 of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) maintains a page called GRAPES which includes several hundred scholarships, grants, fellowships, and postdoctoral awards.
