The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by The ٻƵ of Queensland (UQ), Australia. It challenges graduate students to clearly and concisely present their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.

The 3MT highlights the innovative work of graduate students worldwide, strengthening their ability to explain the importance of their research in accessible, engaging language. Participants deliver a three-minute presentation that showcases their thesis or dissertation and its significance.

* While “thesis” generally refers to master’s-level research projects in the U.S., the term includes doctoral dissertations in much of the world.

The ٻƵ Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition returns on Tuesday, November 18! This exciting event is open to all graduate students. Mark your calendar and make plans to participate!

Eligibility

Students enrolled in either Master’s or Ph.D. programs may compete. A student’s program of study must contain an original research project. The degree program need not formally require a thesis or dissertation. However, the presentation topic must cover the original research project.
