Application Review Process
Once your position has been posted, the Talent Acquisition (TA) Team will screen applications to identify candidates who meet the minimum required qualifications. Qualified applicants will then be shared with the Hiring Official and search committee for further reviews. The following guidance outlines key considerations for evaluating candidates, adhering to hiring preferences, and maintaining fair and compliant hiring practices.
Notification and Access to Applications
Your TA Specialist will notify you by email as qualified applicants are identified. These candidates will be added to a secure OneDrive folder for your review, and access can be extended to additional team members participating in the selection process upon request.
Minimum Qualifications Equivalency Consideration
If the job posting includes the phrase “or equivalent combination of education and experience” in the minimum qualifications, the TA Team may apply the Equivalency Guidelines. This process allows applicants to be considered if their combined education and experience meet the stated requirements on a one-to-one ratio. For example, additional years of relevant experience may substitute for education, and vice versa.
Highlighting Strong Candidates
The TA Team may use additional criteria discussed during the Recruitment Planning Meeting to identify and highlight applicants who are especially well-qualified for further consideration. The team also applies its expertise in recruitment to recognize candidates whose background and experience strongly align with the needs of the position.
Departmental Review of Applications
Once qualified applicants are shared, the Hiring Official and search committee should conduct a detailed review of each application. This step focuses on evaluating candidates against the preferred qualifications, aligning them with the department’s specific needs, and applying any additional criteria established during the recruitment process.
Forming an Interview Shortlist
Once all qualified applicants have been reviewed, begin forming your shortlist or applicants you would like to invite for an interview. A Candidate Disposition Sheet will be provided in your shared OneDrive folder to help you organize and document:
- Candidates selected for interviews
- Candidates not selected, with the reasons why
